This section will be dedicated to the Vargen Magazine. After its production ceased, all the material was entrusted to the archive of the St. Petri Gallery (see letter at the bottom of the page). This collection includes many original documents that will allow us to partially reconstruct the published issues in a quality far superior to the printed version.

Kulturmagasinet Vargen was an experimental underground and art magazine in stencil format, founded in 1973 by Carsten Regild along with Rolf Börjlind. The first issue was inspired by a trip to New York that Regild and Börjlind undertook, featuring contributions from various artists, including Claes Oldenburg. Later, Regild's wife Ann-Marie Regild, Olle Granath, and J.O. Mallander would also join the editorial team. The concept behind the magazine was that all material sent to the editorial office would be published, with the caveat that everything could be edited by the editorial team. When the fourth issue was set to be released, they used the address register of the Moderna Museet to send out 25,000 copies of a manifesto, inviting people from around the world to submit material for the magazine under the slogan "Occupy the brain!". The magazine was published until 1976, with a total of eight issues released.

Stockholm, April 1976

Dear Vargen (Wolf - collaborator),

The material you participated with in the Vargen exhibition, at Moderna Museet, Stockholm, November 1975 is still here. Several artists have asked to have it sent back to them,  but a good numbers still saved in the notebooks.

In the future-time living archive, continuously changed and renewed, or an idea bank could be arranged at MM, with participants from as many countries as possible - and where your part would be obvious.

BUT: as the situation now is Moderna Museet cannot continue the work where Vargen ended. We therefore, have a proposal to you: Galerie S:t Petri, Archive of Experimental and Marginal Art, Lund, Sweden, has offered to received the whole  Vargen-material, and to include it with its archive, unique in Sweden. It is  situated in the immediate nearness of an art-gallery, exhibiting artists from all over the world. The archive is managed by Jean Sellem, a personal friend of many of the Vargen-collaborators. When ever you would wish your material sent to you, he has promised to return it. If not, if you do not wish your material being transferred to AEM, but wish its sent back to you by us, please write to me soon - last date: June 1st 1976.

Best regards,
Nina Ohman
